Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
