The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

Consider this a dare for partners in committed relationships who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 has now made its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it may seem like standard biological terror, but within Together resides a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have stayed together for over ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The plot commences when the couple transition from the urban environment to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim fall into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity begins influencing the duo. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying of scares, interspersing elements of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something horrific). Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his floundering music career gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and removed from his support system. He fears the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is amplified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie never makes either of his characters the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie face the type of challenges that arise in long-term unions a decade in. Deep down, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these concerns of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor does not come across as clumsy or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can embark on right now.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
